Life Story of Nirupama M Marak
A Life of Sacrifice and Vision:
The history of Nirupama Memorial Secondary School is rooted in a story of extraordinary resilience, maternal devotion, and a vision that transcended poverty. As the school celebrates its Silver Jubilee, we honour the woman whose life became the seed for this educational sanctuary: Nirupama M. Marak was born in 1940 in Bangladesh to Bucha Chiran and Geno M. Marak. Raised in a humble household, she inherited values of hard work and faith that would later define her character.
A Mother’s Unwavering Dedication
Raising seven children in a “poor family” presented daily hurdles that would have broken many. Yet, Nirupama possessed a rare strength. Alongside her beloved husband, she raised:
- Sons: Late Prosanto M. Marak, Subroto M. Marak, and Subir M. Marak.
- Daughters: Probha M. Marak, Shubha M. Marak, Late Sosti M. Marak, and Easterina M. Marak.
Nirupama understood that while they were poor in material wealth, they could be rich in opportunity through education. She practiced immense self-denial, making countless personal sacrifices to ensure her children were schooled. Her life was a masterclass in “courage in upbringing,” proving that a mother’s love is the most powerful fuel for change.
The Legacy Takes Flight
The seeds Nirupama planted bore magnificent fruit. Her youngest son, Subir M. Marak, became the carrier of her torch. Inheriting her vision for empowerment, he looked at the rural environment not as a limitation, but as a field for growth.
- Educational Upliftment: Subir M. Marak founded the Nirupama Memorial Secondary School to ensure that no child in the area would be denied the education his mother worked so hard to provide her own children.
- A Leader of the People: The blessings of Nirupama manifested significantly in 2023, when Subir M. Marak was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). This achievement stands as a testament to the values of service and leadership she instilled in her home.
